Vettori Hundred led the team last year when McDonald’s did not travel to the UK due to the Covid-19. Vettori previously coached Birmingham Phoenix and was the head coach during the intervening year of The Hundred, having previously coached the Barbados Royals in the Caribbean Premier League, the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Birmingham Phoenix men reached The Hundred Men’s Finals in 2021, winning four home games at Edgbaston and two on the road.
Dan Vettori said: “I really enjoyed working with the Birmingham Phoenix squad as head coach last summer, so taking on the responsibility permanently was a very easy decision.
“We made great progress in the first season and all the coaches and players loved to see the development of the tournament and we had such great support every time we took to the field in Edgbaston. However, we want a good go. It’s a tough competition, but we’ve got to hold on well and recruit some great players through the draft. We’re looking at something stronger than 2021 and hopefully we can continue to entertain the Birmingham Phoenix fans who are behind us. “ He added.
On August 3, Southern Brave will play the Hundred Men’s Tournament with Welsh Fire. Phoenix will begin their promotion to Trent Rockets three days later and will play their first home match against the Braves on August 10 in Edgbaston.
