Speaking on ‘Cricket Live’ on Star Sports, Gavaskar said: “Sometimes when you’re not doing well, the change room environment is not always the best and this kind of affects your game. That seems to be the case with David Warner.

“Ever since he moved to Delhi Capital, Warner looks happier and you can see it in his performance. When this kind of performance happens, what it does is make the player want to do more. It also lifts the other players on the team because they know what a (quality) player he is.

What a great player David Warner has played for. Last year was an exception because it could happen to anyone. The legendary batsman added that it was just great to see him return.

In the five innings of IPL 2022, Warner has scored 219 runs with an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 157.55.

Former Australia batsman Matthew Hayden has also praised Warner for the way he has led his innings for the Delhi Capitals, saying the left-arm batsman’s fitness has helped him perform better year after year.

“No matter who the bowler is, he plays for a franchise,” Hayden said. As he moves forward, David Warner is a very special player. He obviously uses the (ball) speed very well but you never see a slide in his game, he never slows down in his game.

I think his opening partner Prithvi Shaw is scoring quite a bit in the beginning. Shaw’s strike rate is very high through powerplay but David Warner makes good use of his fitness and shows deep batting. He knows how to speed up his innings.

As IPL 2022 is slowly coming to an end of its business, Delhi Capitals will face Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday as both sides make an insane rush to claim the two most important points in an effort to continue their campaign.
