Wrestling Asian Championship: SAI has sanctioned Rs 1.28 crore for the participation of 30 wrestlers in the Senior Asian Championship. The Sports Authority of India has sanctioned Rs 1.28 crore for the participation of 30 wrestlers, including Olympic medalists Ravi Dahiya and Bajrang Punia, at the Senior Asian Championships which started in Mongolia on Tuesday. A total of 20 wrestlers from the men’s team and 10 from the women’s team from across the Freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions will take part in the event, an exposure competition ahead of the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

The government has approved the visit for a total of Rs 1.28 crore for both the parties, SAI said in a release on Monday.

Tokyo Olympian Anshu Malik says he is heading to Mongolia for the tournament.
“I have been a part of various international camps and I am happy to have all these world-class facilities at the SAI National Center of Excellence in Lucknow,” said Anshu.

“I would also like to thank the Wrestling Federation of India for setting up camp here ahead of this year’s Senior Asian Championships and the CWG and Asian Games. “Me and my teammates are looking forward to the best performance from the upcoming tournament.”

While the women’s team was part of the SAI Lucknow Training Center, the male wrestlers were part of the SAI Regional Center, Sonepat before the Senior Asian Championships.

Men’s team: Freestyle – Ravi Dahiya, Mangal Qadian, Bajrang Punia, Naveen, Yash, Gaurab Balian, Deepak Punia, Vicky, Satyavarta Qadian, Anirudh Kumar; Greco-Roman – Arjun Halakurki, Gyanendra, Neeraj, Sachin Sehrawat, Bikash, Sajan, Harpreet Singh, Sunil Kumar, Robi, Prem.

Women’s team: Manisha, Swati Shinde, Sushma Shoken, Anshu Malik, Sarita Mor, Manisha, Radhika, Sonica Hooda, Nikki, Sudesh.
