Mumbai Indians Failure – Reason No. 1: Famous Middle Order Big-Time Failing
The MI franchise has failed to finish the last five games for the middle-order franchise. Suryakumar Yadav is the only positive. Kieron Pollard, in particular, has yet to play an innings of substance for his loyal franchise. The pair are the only players who can reduce the pressure in challenging situations and dominate the bowling department. Meanwhile, youngsters like Anmolpreet Singh, Tilak Verma and Baby ABD aka Dewald Bravis are being created in the franchise.
Kieron Pollard – Last 5 matches
Match | Bat | Bowl | Date | Ground | Format |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Vs Punjab Kings | 10 | – | 13-April-2022 | Pune | T20 |
Vs. RCB | 0 | 0/24 | 09-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |

Vs. Royals | 22 | 1/46 | 02-Apr-2022 | DY Patil | T20 |
Vs. capital | 3 | – | 27-March-2022 | Brabourne | T20 |
Failure of Mumbai Indians – Reason No. 2: Flop Jaspreet Bumrah
MI pace spearhead Jaspreet Bumrah has failed to maintain his chances in the last 5 matches for the franchise. The Yorker specialist managed just 4 wickets and finished wicketless in 3/5 matches. The 28-year-old has been the backbone of the Mumbai Indians bowling department, especially after his criminal partner Trent Bolt was sold to the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Match | Bat | Bowl | Date | Ground | Format |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Vs Punjab Kings | 0 | 1/28 | 13-April-2022 | Pune | T20 |
Vs. RCB | – | 0/31 | 09-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |
KKR Vs. | – | 0/26 | 06-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |

Vs. capital | – | 0/43 | 27-March-2022 | Brabourne | T20 |
Failure of Mumbai Indians – Reason No. 3: Rohit Sharma’s own form
If Bumrah is uncomfortable, MI captain Rohit Sharma is also out of form. In fact, he has yet to make a fifty in all the five matches that Mumbai have lost. To set the stage for Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard to finish the innings, the franchise will have to play a big knock at the beginning, whether it is a big total set or a goal chase.
Match | Bat | Date | Ground | Format |
---|---|---|---|---|
Vs Punjab Kings | 28 | 13-April-2022 | Pune | T20 |
Vs. RCB | 26 | 09-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |
KKR Vs. | 3 | 06-Apr-2022 | Pune | T20 |
Vs. Royals | 10 | 02-Apr-2022 | DY Patil | T20 |
Vs. capital | 41 | 27-March-2022 | Brabourne | T20 |
Failure of Mumbai Indians – Reason No. 4: Lack of quality spinners
MI lacks quality spinners to put pressure on opponents during slog overs. In fact, Murugan Ashwin is the only big name among the spinners as West Indies star bowler Fabian Allen is sitting on the bench. The decision to release Rahul Chahar in the mega auction has proved to be a nightmare for the five-time champions.
Mumbai Indians also failed to qualify for the play-offs in the last edition of the IPL.
Now if they fail again, it will be the first time since the start of the Rohit Sharma era that MI will fail to cut for play-offs in two consecutive IPL seasons.
