United are returning to Old Trafford after suffering successive defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal, ending their slim hopes of reaching the Champions League next season.

“I don’t think it makes sense to talk and speculate about the Champions League now.” Ranginik, United’s interim manager, told a news conference.

“We have to be realistic.

“Even though we can win four matches, it is not in our hands yet. But what we have in our own hands is the way we play, the level of performance.

“It’s important to end this season on the best possible note, even for next season.”

The German, who is set to play an advisory role in the director’s hot seat with current Ajax boss Eric Ten Hague at Old Trafford, said United would be an attractive destination for players despite their absence in the Champions League.

“The renewal of Bruno’s (Fernandez) contract shows that it is still possible – this club is an attractive club and with a new manager (Eric Ten Hague),” He said.
