Indian players withdraw from Korea Masters

Korea Masters Badminton: The entire Indian badminton team has withdrawn from the upcoming Korea Masters 2022 tournament which is scheduled to start on Tuesday, April 12th. The decision comes after the Badminton Association of India (BAI) decided to conduct selection trials for the upcoming Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Thomas and Uber Cup at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi from April 15 to 20. Confirming the news of withdrawal of Indian players, BAI Vice President Pulela Gopichand told InsideSport.IN: “I don’t think Indians will participate in the upcoming Korean Masters. They will take part in the selection trial. ”

After the Korean Open last week, the Indian players were going to take part in the Korean Masters, a BWF Super 300 tournament. India’s hit shuttler Kidambi Srikkanth was the top pick in the event and players like Parupalli Kashyap, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sikki Reddy, Malvika Bansod were also ready to participate.

But as important events unfolded, BAI decided to conduct a 5-day trial camp to select teams for the Thomas and Uber Cup, the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games.

CWG Selection Trial: Selection trials will see the participation of 16th to 50th ranked Indian shuttlers in the latest world rankings, with top 15 players including PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikkanth, Lakshya Sen and men’s doubles pair Chirag Sethi and Satviksairaj Rankireddy. Seat placement is guaranteed for big-ticket events.

The Thomas and Uber Cup is scheduled to be held in Bangkok from 8 to 15 May. The Commonwealth Games and Asian Games are scheduled to be held in Birmingham and Hangzhou, China from July 28 and September 10, respectively.
