Former Under-19 cricketer Nehal Wadhera’s record-breaking 578 runs: Earlier this year, Nehal was called up for the Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals trial. However, no party took him in the auction. But the left-hander thinks his position with the Royals in Nagpur and his time with coach Kumar Sangakkara have helped improve his cricket.
Sangakkara Sir gave me a lot of encouragement in Rajasthan Royals camp. He inspired me and said that my game is good. He has spent quality time with me. Based on his inputs, I am working on my power-hitting and hopefully, I will get a chance to play in senior Punjab team and IPL in future. Vadhera said he has yet to make his senior debut for Punjab
Wadhera was part of Syed Mushtaq Ali’s T20 squad in Punjab but did not get a chance to play. He is the third cricketer from Ludhiana to have played for India at any level. Earlier, Yashpal Sharma, who was a member of the Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup, and Gagandeep Singh represented the country at the senior level.
