“I am aware that my name as England captain has been mentioned as a potential successor to Joe and I am guessing because I am an experienced central contract player who has been in the international game for a long time,” Broad wrote in his Mail On. Sunday column.
“However, this is not something I thought because first of all, I do not currently have a shirt in the England Test squad and my focus is very much on changing that by taking wickets for Nottinghamshire in the next few weeks.”

“I would argue that we are in a very unique position right now in terms of Test team selection as there are only two players whose names you can write on the scorecard. One is Joe Root, the other is Ben Stokes. “
Broad said he was disappointed with his recent omission, but it did not affect his relationship with Root. “People may question my relationship with Joey because of recent history, but I’ve always been good at distinguishing between friendship and business,” Broad added.
Broad added, “From my point of view, it’s a professional sport and it won’t stop me from enjoying a glass of red wine or playing golf with those who have made such a decision.”
