He was traveling from Guwahati to Shillong in a car with three of his teammates when a 12-wheeler trailer coming from the opposite direction hit the car in Shangbangla with a plow through the road divider and fell into a ditch.
According to a release issued by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), the driver died on the spot and Deendayalan was pronounced dead by doctors at Nampoh Civil Hospital.
His teammates – Ramesh Santosh Kumar, Abinash Prasannaji Srinivasan and Kishore Kumar – suffered serious injuries but are now stable.
The organizers of the championship took them to the Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in north-east Shillong for their critical care.
The team of doctors treating them said the condition of the boys was stable. Said the release.

Deendayalan’s father and two members of his family will arrive in Guwahati tonight and his body will be flown to Chennai on Monday morning.
Deendayalan, a promising player with several national ranking titles and international medals for his achievements, will represent India in the WTT Youth Competition in Linz, Austria from April 27.
A product of Krishnaswamy TT Club in Anna Nagar, he came to praise someone other than Sarat Kamal.
Deendayalan’s transition from cadet and sub-junior to junior division was fixed. He also won cadet and sub-junior national titles.
The B.Com student of Loyola College won the under-19 boys title at the Dehradun National Ranking Tournament this January.
