Mohun Bagan won 5-0: It was one-way traffic throughout the first 45 minutes as Mohun Bagan led 3-0 in the first half. Hugo Boomas was absolutely brilliant and a constant threat to Blue Star defenders. However, with two goals to his name, Johnny Caucoi stole all the limelight. The midfielder made the most of his freedom against the Blue Star.
The Blue Star had hoped to return to Sri Lanka with a respectable scoreline but unfortunately lost to them they lost five goals. Arash Anwar had nothing to do but save early in the first half but was called to the end of the game to keep his clean sheet intact.

The Mariners qualified directly for Round 2 after being runners-up to Mumbai City FC in the Indian Super League 2020-21. Blue Star SC, on the other hand, defeated Machhindra FC of Nepal 2-1 in an away first preliminary round match against Mariners.
